Mont Kiara, or Mont’ Kiara, is a prestigious township situated northwest of Kuala Lumpur’s city center. Known for its upscale residential condominiums and office complexes, this affluent area lies in the heart of Klang Valley, approximately midway between Kepong and downtown Kuala Lumpur, and adjacent to Sri Hartamas. It is conveniently accessible, being just a 15-minute drive from Petaling Jaya, Subang Jaya, and downtown Kuala Lumpur, with Taman Tun Dr. Ismail only a 10-minute drive away via the Sprint Expressway.
The township’s development began in the early 1990s when Datuk Alan Tong, founder of Sunrise and creator of Mont’ Kiara, acquired a 10-acre plot at the Segambut Dalam Rubber Estate. The land was hilly, covered in undergrowth and rubber trees, with no access roads.

empower individuals with visual impairments by providing services and opportunities for Over several months, Datuk Tong purchased additional parcels, eventually amassing 100 acres, which he named Mont’ Kiara. His son, Datuk NK Tong, who knew little French, coined the name. Following this, the land was flattened and an access road was built from Sri Hartamas, extending 1.75 kilometers into the area.
The first phase of development, Mont’ Kiara Pines, was completed in 1993. Launched at RM 190 per square foot and comprising 496 units, it received an overwhelming response. The second phase introduced Mont’ Kiara Palma with 400 units. At the time, both Pines and Palma were the only condominiums to offer four tennis courts. Over the years, Mont’ Kiara has evolved into a self-contained, prestigious residential precinct, known for its luxurious living environment.
